About Januvia: Januvia (Sitagliptin) – 50mg is used to manage diabetes type-2 by lowering blood sugar. It belongs to the DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitors class of drugs that work by regulating insulin levels which rise after eating. Januvia 50mg can supplement other medicine used to treat type-2 diabetes like insulin, sulphonylureas, and metformin or can be administered alone.

How to use Januvia


Use this medicine as prescribed by the doctor. It can be taken with or without food. Januvia 50mg requires regular visits to the doctor’s office for blood tests to be taken. Your blood sugar should be monitored by the doctor who can change the dosage every now and then for the best results. Januvia 50mg used together with exercise, and a healthy diet will improve the results. Remember that anyone with diabetes can experience low blood sugar whose symptoms include hunger, pale skin, sweating, headache, feeling shaky or losing concentration. Januvia Dosage


The usual dosage for an adult is 100mg taken orally once per day. However, if it is being administered together with sulfonylurea and/ or insulin, a lower dosage is needed. Januvia Side Effects


This drug has some unwanted side effects such as low blood sugar, flatulence, and vomiting which are common. Uncommon side effects include drowsiness, stomach ache, constipation, and diarrhea. Another rare side effect is pancreatitis whereby symptoms are severe and recurrent abdominal pain accompanied by nausea or vomiting. Pancreatitis is when the pancreas gets inflamed. Patients can also experience flu-like symptoms, fever, runny nose, headache, sore throat and pain in the joints and limbs.

Januvia Precautions


First of all, if you are allergic to Januvia (Sitagliptin) or exhibit allergic reactions to the drug; swelling of the tongue, throat, lips and face and difficulty in breathing, you should consult your doctor and discontinue use. People with diabetes type-1 should not use this medicine. Pregnant women and nursing mothers are discouraged from using Januvia because effects on the unborn baby and breast milk respectively are not well known. If you have kidney problems, the doctor can prescribe a lower dose of 25mg or stick with the 50mg tablets. Inform your doctor of any medication you are taking; digoxin, for example, used to treat arrhythmia, reacts negatively with Januvia and levels of this drug should be checked during a blood test. Children are not allowed to use this medication.
