About Kwik Stop: Kwik Stop Styptic Powder (Benzocaine) helps to rapidly stop bleeding by causing the surrounding tissue to contract and sealing the blood vessels. It also has a numbing affect on the treated area.

How to use Kwik Stop

Kwik Stop Styptic Powder (Benzocaine) helps to rapidly stop bleeding by causing the surrounding tissue to contract and sealing the blood vessels. It also has a numbing affect on the treated area. This product is designed for external use when carrying out basic grooming procedures (such as clipping claws or nails) on dogs, cats and birds. Most pet owners will find it desirable to trim their animal`s claws or nails, as long nails can cause damage to carpets and furniture and may even injure the toes if not properly managed.

Although clipping the nails is a relatively simple procedure, it is often made more difficult due to the presence of the quick (a pink part in the middle of the nail containing a blood vessel and nerves). If the quick is cut by mistake, bleeding and pain can occur. Pet groomers usually have an antihemorrhagic agent (such as this powder) on hand, in case of bleeding. When applied, it causes vasoconstriction.

This in turn allows the blood vessels to become narrower, thereby helping to stop bleeding. The addition of benzocaine helps provide quick pain relief. It is known as a topical pain reliever and has an anesthetic effect on the treated area. This is achieved by inhibiting the nerve impulses and decreasing the effect of the sodium ions on the neuronal membrane. Because of this, a numbing effect is produced and any mild local pain is relieved.

Kwik Stop Dosage

Kwik Stop Styptic Powder (Benzocaine) is provided in a 1.5 ounce package. You are advised to seek the advice of your veterinarian before attempting to cut your pet`s nails. In some cases, a professional groomer may be the best option. Only use the powder as directed. Normally, pet owners will be advised by the veterinarian to apply the powder to the site of bleeding and gently press on it. The flow of blood should be quickly stopped. Veterinary treatment may be necessitated should the bleeding fail to stop.
